Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the 2nd Party of Regional Geological Survey, Gansu Bureau of Geology in 1977 and published by the Compiling Group of Regional Geology of the Inner Mongolia Zizhiqu in 1991. The type section is located at Suishishan, north of Qinghegou in west part of Ejin Banner, Nei Mongol Zizhiqu.

Synonym: (碎石山组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by purplish gray, grayish green and grayish brown meta-sandstone, meta-pebbly-sandstone, grayish green and brownish yellow silty marl slate intercalated with limestone lenses. Its thickness is over 387 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation is conformably underlain by the volcanic rock in the lower part of the original Suishishan Gr (= volcanic Gongpoquan Gr).

Upper contact

It is disconformably overlain by the Qinghegou Fm of the Lower Devonian (not in Devon lexicon entries).

Regional extent

It is distributed in the northwest part of Ejin Banner, at the border area, with rather steady lithology.

Fossils

The limestone lenses yield anthozoa Favosites coreanicus, Phaulactis, Holophragma calceoloides, Squameofavosites, Angopora, Romingerella, Parastriatopora aff. grandissimus, Thamnopora, etc.
